You Know It Looks A Lot Like Last Year

Jesus. It's the middle of December. There isn't a lot of color to look at around there this time of year, if you take away some ducks and the hordes of Townsend's Warblers in my neighborhood...but I can't complain too much, California has it good compared to forlorn places like North Dakota, Kansas and Maine.

Since I move around so much, its strange to look back and realize that right now I'm doing the exact same thing as this time last year...same house, same friends, same worries, same routine....but with a substantially higher year list. One of the big differences is my January roadtrip will take me to the Pacific Northwest, instead of Eastern Mexico....these areas essentially have nothing in common, but I am optimistic things will get just as weird, minus the food poisoning and armed robbery business.

Right. Here is a Broad-billed Hummingbird (from my previous home in Florida Canyon, AZ) to guide you into the glorious weekend. See you soon.

  1. Nice weekend send off, jeepers. And I love that your low carbon footprint list is hella long (pat pat pat). Just hoping your 2012 does not include armed robbery.

Of late, we've been descended upon during the (relatively) warm, sunny hours by fleets of flickers, battalions of bluebirds, and (hm...) jillions of juncos flitting about the yard, joyfully cramming bugs down their gullets while said bugs are about and it's above 32.

Have you heard if the magical duck is still in Sacramento? Heading up that direction in 3 days...

  2. Hmmm...maybe I should be the one doing armed robbery next year? Turn the tables?

The magic duck is indeed still present. If you havent been to Colusa, its a bit of a drive from Sac, so make sure to give yourself some extra time if you look for it.

  5. It's going to be a strange mix of socializing and birding...Arcata to Corvalis to Olympia to Ocean Shores to Port Angeles to Portland and to points south. Want to go birding?
