I read something a year or two ago ...This is great! I read something a year or two ago that basically said herons/egrets might choose to build their nests where there are gators. I guess their presence deters other predators from coming in to climb the tree and really eff up the nest, so it's worth it to sacrifice a chick or two for Good of Country.
