Basking In The Dubious Glow Of Excess

True, Eastern Phoebes are not excessive birds.  They are not absurdly colored, obnoxious, loud, or annoying in any way.  Frankly, I would like to see more of them.  I don't know how rare they are here in southeast Arizona, but since they are quite the commodity in California, I can't imagine they are any more abundant out this way.  This poorly photographed bird (hey, its a rarity, I can get away with it) was at Patagonia Lake State Park this afternoon.

Note the economy of style.

Here's a dorsal view.  Observe that unlike sharks, phoebes lack fins.

So there is this new tool on Blogger that lets me point out on a map where this is all going down....at the moment I'm just going to use it to let you know where I'm posting from.  If the internet connection was better here I would attempt to pinpoint the location of the bird, but lets face it......Eastern Phoebes aren't that rare, and anyone with the gumption to look for such a thing out this way already knows where Patagonia Lake is.  Hell, I don't even know what its going to look like on the blog, and its probably not worth talking about.  So enjoy this red bird, and have a positive Friday.

Vermilion Flycatchers are anything and everything but economical.
