Well, fulmars are colonial nesters, so the title isn't exactly accurate. What I'm trying to say is...we may have a new species on our hands people, one that is not something birders have already been gossiping about for years. Felonious Jive, the Great Ornithologist, has the scoop at 10,000 Birds. This Northern Fulmar (for now?) was photographed off Half Moon Bay, CA.

Two Million Years of Solitude
Well, fulmars are colonial nesters, so the title isn't exactly accurate. Not all molecular techniques are created equally. DNA barcoding, which is the technique that the authors of the Fulmar paper used, isn't very highly regarded among most (bird) taxonomists, so while the results are interesting, I would be surprised if this goes anywhere.
